Kings of Spade presents The 9th Annual MOTOWN VALENTINES: A BIG BAND LIVE TRIBUTE TO MOTOWN ERA HITS AT THE REPUBLIK WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14th

The soulful R&B jams of the 60s will be recreated with an epic 10-piece live band and 15 of Honolulu’s fiercest soul singers, including local powerhouses Paula Fuga and Tavana, American Idol finalists Big Mox, Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner, Yoza, local favorites, Kahnma, Melodie Soul, Keith Batlin, Riya Davis, Melissa Diallo, Noah Ilalaole, Praise Jesus Artis, Keahi Delovio, and Evan Khay. Under the direction of Mark Lindberg, a wall of sound will be created with our island’s top horn players and backing vocalists. We will be rolling out Motown-era classic hits like Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” Sam Cooke’s “Cupid,” and "Dancing In The Street" from Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.

An original opening set will be provided by Blues-Rock band Kings of Spade.

KINGS OF SPADE are a high-energy, foot-stomping, shameless dancing Blues-Rock act from Hawaii. Picked as openers for both Guns ‘N Roses and Bon Jovi, KOS has also been featured at Willie K’s Blues Festival, Riki Rachtman’s Cathouse Anniversary, and on iconic stages like the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles all the way to the Stone Pony in New Jersey. They have toured as openers for King’s X in the US and Europe.

Mark London (House) – This Grammy Nominated DJ/Producer from LA rocked my world when he came down with Carl Cox for NYE. He is my #1 favorite DJ right now! I danced my ass off at Miko’s Centered party until 2am when he was featured. Later I danced my ass off some more at the Century Center rooftop party where he and Carl Cox played til 7am. When I clocked in to work at 8am my boss asked me why I still had glitter on my face. Hahahaha! What?! Where’d that come from?

Violetta Beretta (House & Burlesque) – VB is Hawaii’s burlesque hammer. She will perform a live cabaret collab with KOS AND she will be making her DJ debut .… AND Bad Medicine will also be her birthday party. Happy Bday VB!

TOKI (House) – Toki is from the original Sisters In Sound crew – the first all-female DJ collective on this island and the crew of girls that inspired me to throw my first ever dance party. Toki’s party was the seed of inspiration that thrust me into music exploration, writing my own lyrics, and eventually forming Kings of Spade. When I reached out to learn how to DJ she took me under her wing and gave me my first lesson. Although known as one of Hawaii’s Drum’n’Bass queens, she will be throwing down a House set for our Bad Medicine party.

JODHI (House) – Also known as a Drum’n’Bass queen, Jodhi holds residencies at Deck and Alohilani and when I requested she throw down some dance-vibey House music her response was, “Don’t worry, I got this.” FYI she is also a BOMB (like the BEST) Yoga Nidra Meditation teacher that activated all kinds of goodness in my life. Hit her up if you’re interested.
